Fat Jaws Badness was founded on Earth in April 1999, making it the oldest known Human Private Military Company in the universe. Initially, FJB provided security services to governments and private corporations, where conventional military action was undesired or politically impossible. Though specific details have never been released, FJB is believed to have been responsible for de-escalation or prevention of several major global conflicts during the 21st century.
After the Great Saharan Incursion of 2106, Steve “Scrotie” Sakoda, one of FJB’s veteran officers, was posthumously awarded high honors by the governments of Australia, the European Union, Japan, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Provinces of America and several others. Rumors abound as to why a civilian was bestowed such high honors, with many of the stories crediting Sakoda with the assassination of Sultan Sameer Assad and many of his advisors, effectively preventing what many feared would be the Third World War. Sources within FJB have never confirmed this claim but have never denied it.
Soon after the first Aleph was discovered by the Crimson Group in 2125, Fat Jaws Badness formed its first Space Detachment. FJB was awarded one of the first extra-solar security contracts as the first gates were constructed around the Alephs. Though governments claimed at the time that no signs of extraterrestrial life had been discovered, security of the Jumpgate projects was taken very seriously. Veteran officer unver led logistics and security teams on many successful Jumpgate construction projects. Many of his methods can still be found in modern training vids.
In 2272, one year after the old Jumpgate system was made obsolete by the discovery of the First Jump Point, Fat Jaws Badness ceased its terrestrial operations and committed to full-time off-world operations. The board of directors was split on this decision, but it turned out to be a most fortuitous change of direction. Over the next century, FJB would become self-sufficient and no longer dependent solely on government and corporate contracts for income.
By the time the UNE was formed in 2380, Fat Jaws Badness had become one of the most profitable military forces in known space. This enabled the buy-back of all outstanding stock and the transition of FJB to a privately held company. With governments united, conflicts waning and profits soaring, FJB drifted away from its roots as a military force.
When first contact was made with the Banu in 2438, Fat Jaws Badness renewed its focus on security. Despite all indication that the relationship with the Banu would be peaceful, the revelation that Humans were not alone was enough to inspire a new commitment to military training and superiority. As Humans began to spread even further from Earth, FJB won an increasing amount of new security contracts as one of the few remaining providers of these services.
In the 2500s, as Humans made contact with both the Xi’An and the Tevarin and with the formation of the UEE in 2546, Fat Jaws Badness found itself once again fulfilling military contracts from the government. Though records are encrypted, it is believed that FJB played a major role in the Second Tevarin War and the eventual defeat of Corath’Thal.
With the discovery of the Vanduul and their increasingly brutal attacks on Human settlements, security has again become a necessity. The weakening of the UEE and an increase in lawlessness among Human factions and colonies has only amplified the need, for those wishing to travel or trade among the stars, to contract private security forces like FJB. Business is booming and recruiting quotas have been increased for the first time in centuries.
