A few settings ya may want to try to increase performance - PlanetSide

Grax Brigadier General Posts: 161	Posted on Mon Apr 28, 2003 11:56 pm First off go into the advanced graphics settings and set the prerender graphics setting to none instead of all(set at all for default). Dramatically changed my gaming performance from moving around in a crawl with things warping everywhere to the way it was a couple days ago before the FPS lag was so bad. Also if you unselect the fullscreen box in the options menu at the world selection screen, then you can play in windowed mode. In windowed mode I am easily able to save the resolution size I want to play in quite easily. 1280X1060 is pretty nice by the way Especially when ya don't have to keep switching resolution settings everytime ya start up the game.


Dolemyte Commander Posts: 1116	Posted on Tue Apr 29, 2003 4:40 am Time for everyone to pull out their calculators and rulers. Measure the height and width of your monitor (just the screen). Now stick that in your calculator and divide the width by the height. You should get a number very close to 4/3 or 4:3, which is the standard resolution for regular CRTs (ignore this if you have an LCD). Now stick 1280/1024 in your calculator and notice that the number you get is about 5:4 (note: not a standard resolution). Therefore, if you want your resolution to be 1280 wide, then you should choose 1280x960 (read 4:3) unless you have an LCD monitor. <rant> If your screen does not look right in 1280x960 then you have something in your monitor settings hosed. I do NOT know how 1280x1024 EVER got in to any games as a supported resolution. I am pretty sure it started in one of the DOOM or QUAKE games, but I seriously believe that it was a mistake in calculation. Why is it in PlanetSide? Because a bunch of ignorant little 13 year olds bitched enough. Either way, unless you have a widescreen monitor or an LCD monitor, you are using a non-standard resolution (at 1280x1024) and that makes me want to come to your house and club you to death. </rant> Note: Please ignore the above post if you have an LCD or Widescreen Monitor. If that is the case then just let my above episode serve as a PSA. On the otherhand, if you are REALLY running 1280x1060 then you have a different problem altogether.
