The Official Battlefield 1942 National Championships, sponsored by NVIDIA, ASUS and Shuttle have arrived!

Electronic Arts is proud to support the Championships as part of our continuing plans to support and promote the proud community of Battlefield 1942.

Promoted by FiringSquad and managed by iGames , we are bringing the premiere multiplayer shooter, Battlefield 1942 and its hot new expansion, Road to Rome, to the national competitive scene. With total cash, prizes and giveaways valued at $50,000 donated by Electronic Arts, NVIDIA, ASUS, Shuttle, ABS Technologies, Plantronics and Gateway, the stage is set for the best battles of the new millennium!

Teams of eight soldiers each will re-enact famous engagements such as Kursk, Midway, Normandy and Monte Cassino in deadly online battles, vying for the chance to be the best. Watch your favorites as they sign up at their local participating iGames center and progress through the rounds to become National Battlefield 1942 Champions, or suffer a crushing defeat at the hands of a superior foe. Would any of you guys be interested in this? Surely we could get 8 people together. Although it would be nice to have 10 if we NEED 8, you know what I'm sayin? Let me know what you guys think.

No, I think I know your answer. But, I don't think the two of us (as good as we may be) would be able to take on 8 and be successful.

HA!!!

I was reading more about this and they are actually going to have the games at NetCafes. They actually expect groups of 8 throughout the country to show up at cafes and compete. I'm sorry, but I don't believe any of these groups will be old enough to drive. I find it very hard to believe they will get the same level of competition they would have gotten with and "online" competition.

Good question....I think in this age of broadband and voice communication it is pure laziness on EA's part not to put together a "REAL" tournament like this.
